(一部のものはvamosbrigade.comに引き継がれている模様)

* I think that's about it for now. Susan & Chen, thanks for your excellent work. *notworthy* And thanks to Rafa *rafa* , in case he is reading this *wave* , for your amazing & wonderful play. *cheering* [R] - reiko, Sep/5/2003 16:18:44 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Thanks again, reiko. :D You really give us tons of help around here. [R] - Chen, Sep/5/2003 16:46:05 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I'm not sure who's doing the excellent work around here. *lol* I'm voting for reiko right now. *notworthy*. Thanks so much. We are in the process of uploading stuff as I type right now. :D [R] - Susan, Sep/5/2003 21:44:57 [-08 PST] [DST]

* It's not an exhibition. It's the championships for the Castilla La Mancha region of Spain. [R] - Chen, Sep/5/2003 14:08:24 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Ok, so he got a wild card into that, but he's ranked higher than any of those guys. So I assume he'll be the no. 1 seed. [R] - Chen, Sep/5/2003 14:14:41 [-08 PST] [DST]

* pnoto* Tennis Jounal (Japan) surely has the coolest/hottest cover of all the tennis magazines. Andy for the October issue. ;-) - (Author from 62.194.104.199), Sep/5/2003 13:45:15 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Sorry, that was me. [R] - reiko, Sep/5/2003 16:02:55 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Many thanks, reiko. I've posted this cover on the RoddicknRoll board. It's a great one. :D [R] - Susan, Sep/5/2003 21:46:32 [-08 PST] [DST]

* ya dije yo que iba a jugar en albacete hace 3 meses.en la final jugar contra feliciano lopez aunque juegan jugadores del top 500 para arriba.yo jugar la previa pero para jugar contra rafa tengo que ganar 6 partidos asique est complicado.un saludo. [R] - miki, Sep/4/2003 02:38:05 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Hola, miki! Muchas gracias por la explicacin. Buena suerte! :D [R] - Susan, Sep/4/2003 08:12:17 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Show your Spanish skills, Susan! *lol* Btw, you've got mail. :D [R] - Chen, Sep/4/2003 15:01:19 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Or lack thereof. *rofl* You have mail, too. :D [R] - Susan, Sep/4/2003 16:32:48 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *lol* Well, you've improved. Mail again. :D [R] - Chen, Sep/4/2003 17:01:24 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Going into Rafi Chat now. [R] - Chen, Sep/4/2003 17:04:09 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I'm there now. Go delayed because of kids' homework issues. :D [R] - Susan, Sep/4/2003 17:54:27 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *lol* I'm having homework issues of my own. [R] - Chen, Sep/4/2003 19:26:39 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *More Rafael U.S. Open *photo* *Randy has sent me his photos from the U.S. Open, and there are some great ones of Rafi. Chen, he said we can save them and use them. :D Thanks, Randy. *notworthy* The link to his album is inside. - Susan, Sep/3/2003 17:24:21 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I really like the Nadal3 one -- perhaps we can do some cropping of the photos, Chen. :D [R] - Susan, Sep/3/2003 17:25:45 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Muchas muchas gracias, Randy!!! *notworthy* And I agree, that Nadal 3 one is very cute.... I'll crop them now. :D BTW, Susan, have you checked the hp? I updated it with news that Rafi's playing some tourney in Spain next week, there's no site for it though. [R] - (Author from 12.208.82.52), Sep/3/2003 17:29:07 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Clearly, that was me. [R] - Chen, Sep/3/2003 17:30:19 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Ok, I just updated all the albums with the photos reiko posted over the past few days (except the big sequence ones in Croatian, I'm putting them on a page this weekend).. Now, on to Randy's. :D [R] - Chen, Sep/3/2003 18:13:17 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Alrighty then, I just cropped & added Randy's photos. :D Now, it's time for homework. [R] - Chen, Sep/3/2003 18:35:21 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Thanks for the Open photos & uploading them! I agree with Times Online when they say His swarthy good looks are a marketing mans dream, *clap* [R] - reiko, Sep/3/2003 18:44:26 [-08 PST] [DST]

* reiko, thanks so much for all you have done -- and Chen as well. It's great to have all those photos uploaded. I did note on the HP that we would be uploading an archive of articles that reiko located, and referred folks here for now. I also featured one of Andy's great photos on the HP. Thanks again, Randy! :D [R] - Susan, Sep/3/2003 22:17:44 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I meant Randy, not Andy! Too many years of working on a Roddick site. *rofl* [R] - Susan, Sep/4/2003 07:23:30 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *news* Translation of one of the articles Reiko sent inside. Feel free to correct it in any way and don't worry if you can't use it :-) - Debbie, Sep/4/2003 00:03:08 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Thanks Debbie! Love the phrase: *lol* The new diamond of spanish tennis *lol* Looks like everyone wants to predict when Rafa will be No.1 or in top-10, etc. [R] - reiko, Sep/4/2003 06:14:15 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Not that I want to overload Chen & Susan any further, but I found a nice brief mention of *Rafa* : *news* Inside Tennis: Patriot Games (sportsillustrated.cnn.com). In the last passage he mentions the match between Rafa and Younes. - reiko, Sep/4/2003 06:07:51 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Thanks, reiko. Jon is quickly becoming a Rafael fan, isn't he? :D I do agree that more needs to be done to expose fans to great players who happen to not be American. It was nice that we got to see a bit of the Rafi/Younes match, but that match should have been shown in its entirety -- or at least in lieu of some of the women's snoozers. Those early-round routs by the top players are less than exciting. 8) 8) [R] - Susan, Sep/4/2003 08:06:00 [-08 PST] [DST]

* You really should have interactive coverage, so you can pick and choose the matches you want to see. I guess we're quite lucky that Tim and Greg lose early these days so we get coverage of interesting players ;-) *lol* [R] - Anne, Sep/4/2003 14:28:05 [-08 PST] [DST]

* The thing that is so frustrating, though, is that with all these rain delays, there's no technology to show all the matches we missed last week. There were some good ones -- such as Novak/Younes. We only saw the end of that. If they had the tapes, they could show them instead of Connors/Krickstein -- or today's re-run of a Williams sisters doubles match, back from the days where they still wore beads. 8) [R] - Susan, Sep/4/2003 16:32:19 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Same problem everywhere. I'm fed up with Agassi x Dent and, in Japan, they fed up with Sugiyama x ?..... :-( [R] - reiko, Sep/4/2003 16:42:29 [-08 PST] [DST]

* That last thread was getting rather long, so here's a new one! *lo.* Thanks reiko for all those great articles! Here's one from the Times today: Murray on course to match feats of his hero. It's mainly about Andrew Murrey and Coria, but it does mention Rafi! So thought I'd post it *lol* - Anne, Sep/3/2003 14:46:57 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Thanks, Anne! :D Smart kid, Murray, taking Rafi's advice about going to Barcelona. *lol* [R] - Chen, Sep/3/2003 15:37:49 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Johnny Mac and Martina were throwing balls into the crowd to entertain them, and Jim Courier was talking to andy about his match. Andy says despite is record over malisse he has to focus on this match...i agree. *wave* [R] - Sonya, Sep/3/2003 15:57:56 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Chen. >>> - Sindhu, Sep/3/2003 16:38:54 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Sorry to be nosy Sindhu, but I was wondering that too, now it looks like no one comes to my board, even though not many do :D [R] - Sonya, Sep/3/2003 16:40:26 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Sindhu>>> - Chen, Sep/3/2003 17:12:22 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Sindhu>>> - Chen, Sep/3/2003 17:26:04 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Thanks Susan and Chen! I think that must be it. :D [R] - Sindhu, Sep/3/2003 17:42:05 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *news* Rafi's mentioned in Jon Wertheim's Midterm Grades :D See inside>>> He first mentions Maria Kirilenko: Still needs seasoning - - but remember the name. Then Rafi's under that and see above. with Tursunov under him. - Chen, Sep/1/2003 11:52:29 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Oh yea, he got a B. [R] - Chen, Sep/1/2003 11:47:31 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Ok, I updated the site with it. Now I'm off to go do research for my 'Great Man Theory' essay. Fun fun... 8) [R] - Chen, Sep/1/2003 12:10:10 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Thanks, Chen. Nice that Rafi was mentioned as someone with vast potential. I also like that Jon pointed out at the absence of Pete and the Williams sisters has allowed the TV coverage to `it easier to showcase the preposterous gifts of Roger Federer, the charm of Younes El Aynaoui, the crisp ball-striking of Kim Clijsters, the vast potential of Rafael Nadal, Dmitry Tursunov, Dinara Safina and Maria Kirilenko.' :D [R] - Susan, Sep/1/2003 15:27:13 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Chen, I had a couple additional webcam shots that I added to the U.S. Open photo album. Most of what I had, you had already saved. I think we have that album caught up. :D [R] - Susan, Sep/1/2003 15:47:36 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Thanks to all those netcams, that album has a freakishly large amount of photos. *lol* [R] - Chen, Sep/1/2003 16:53:32 [-08 PST] [DST]

* And Stelee is working on a U.S. Open wallpaper for us all. D [R] - Susan, Sep/1/2003 17:19:04 [-08 PST] [DST]

* reiko>>> - Chen, Sep/2/2003 14:17:54 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Also, I just uploaded those junior photos you posted before. Thanks so much! :D Where are they from? We like to give credit to the source. :D [R] - Chen, Sep/2/2003 14:25:49 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *news* Nadal underlines star quality by adapting to grass(Times Online) [R] - reiko, Sep/2/2003 16:17:19 [-08 PST] [DST]

Of course, I had to extend my Croatian to its limits to figure out where to find the backhand link. *lol* Still, we'll definitely be saving this stuff. Chen and I are working out a game plan to catalog it all. Thanks so much. *clap* [R] - Susan, Sep/2/2003 21:58:49 [-08 PST] [DST]

* And I just uploaded the article that joes translated along with the original Spanish version. Thanks again joes! :D [R] - Chen, Aug/31/2003 11:07:52 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *photo* Just found another Rafa pic from the match against Younes. - reiko, Aug/31/2003 12:58:53 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *photo* from BBC site. - reiko, Aug/31/2003 13:21:00 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Thanks reiko! I liked the first one so much it's now on the homepage. *lol* [R] - Chen, Aug/31/2003 13:27:38 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Yes, thanks so much, reiko! And, also, Chen, thanks for updating the site. I think we are about caught up with the Open stuff. :D I'll look at my saved webcams and see if there are any more to add, but I think you got all the good ones. :D I did add the shaking at the net photo to our Links page --- thought it was a nice update. [R] - Susan, Aug/31/2003 17:28:02 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I find it funny how we've got so many photos of a guy that lost in the 2nd round (even though a majority of them are netcams). Just shows how much notice he's getting for his talent. [R] - Chen, Aug/31/2003 17:41:55 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Well, it's nice that Moya (and Roddick) got through today. I was surprised about Moya, but not Roddick, who had a surprisingly easy day at the office. I'm not sure that Saretta even showed up for that match, or he didn't seem interested in it when he did. But I'm sure Andy appreciated one non-eventful day for him at the Open. *lol* But well done to Carlos. Not sure he can stop Younes, though, who is certainly continuing on where he left off at the Aus Open in terms of creating crowd- - Susan, Sep/1/2003 01:04:46 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *photo* Not sure if you Nadallions have seen this one already from tennis-ontheline.com >>> - Diem, Sep/1/2003 05:49:12 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Oh cool, muchas gracias Diem! :D [R] - Chen, Sep/1/2003 08:17:53 [-08 PST] [DST]

* With that serve you can't win anything - Angel, Aug/30/2003 01:18:47 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Yeah but hes only still a kid and still got a long way to go but I think hes getting there!! - Sofia, Aug/30/2003 02:58:13 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I watched the whole match last night - in fact stayed up until 12.45am to see the end of it. Sorry didn't record it - thought you would probably see it live. To answer Angel - yes he is a boy but he has so much potential - he is 17 years old with a very wise head on those young shoulders and the fact that he took Younes to two tie breaks and that was by breaking back each time - that says a lot. So in my humble opinion - I think you can all be very proud of him and his future can only be good. [R] - Denise, Aug/30/2003 05:23:16 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I agree with with Denise! This was the first time I'd seen Rafi play on hardcourts and I thought he applied himself excellently. Yes, the main difference in the match was that Younes had the bigger serve, but that is something that will only develop in Rafi's game. The fact that he was able to compete with Younes (who is a great player) on such an equal level (physical and mental) spells out great things for him. For someone as young as he is, he's amazing. And we can't forget that he beat - Anne, Aug/30/2003 08:13:50 [-08 PST] [DST]

* And he also beat Younes the last time they played, too. :D [R] - Susan, Aug/30/2003 12:56:45 [-08 PST] [DST]

* BTW, Denise, lovely to see you posting here. *wave* Did you get my e-mail re Paris? [R] - Susan, Aug/30/2003 21:19:15 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *news* & *photo* El Aynaoui pone fin a la aventura del joven Rafael Nadal (elmundo). Not much about Rafa mentioned, but with a photo. ;-) - reiko, Aug/30/2003 08:14:12 [-08 PST] [DST]

* For somebody with such an apparently pathetic serve - that won't win him anything - he's doing fairly well. imagine how he'll do once it improves... People seem to forget he's 17 - his serve will get better. Ferrero's serve used to blow as well, but now it's good enough to win him free points occasionally. [R] - Rebecca, Aug/30/2003 10:27:10 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I should also point out that he knows that he needs to serve better. He's spoken about that many a time in interviews. It's not as if it's a big secret that this is his weakness, or that he has failed to address the problem. [R] - Rebecca, Aug/30/2003 10:28:59 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Yes, I agree, Rebecca. It would be really something if a guy who just turned 17 didn't have something he needed to improve. He's never going to have a Roddick serve, but he could be in the mold of a player like Agassi, Hewitt or Conners -- with his groundstrokes, footspeed and great return game. It will make it easier when he's able to get some free points off his serve -- particularly on faster surfaces. And he came awfully close to making the match against Younes a 4 or 5 setter. With - Susan, Aug/30/2003 13:02:02 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Well, I just watched the clip of yesterday's match on USA. Boy, it was exciting. It's too bad Rafi couldn't have taken it to a fourth set, but he gave it everything he had. He's such a fighter! Jim Courier said he hasn't been this excited about a player since Andy Roddick burst on the scene. After the match, he said remember that name, `Rafael Nadal.' You'll be hearing it again! Great job at the Open, Rafi! [R] - Susan, Aug/30/2003 13:57:42 [-08 PST] [DST]

* BTW, Jim and John McEnroe said he needs to improve his serve, too -- to get him some free points. They think that will happen as he grows. But they said the reason they think he's going to be a Top 10 player is because of his competitive nature. He keeps playing his game in tight situations, and during the big points. He has a lot of confidence in his game, and doesn't let up on the big points. It's that competitive spirit you can't teach, and they said Rafael has it. They also liked his - Susan, Aug/30/2003 14:04:03 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Just a quick note to congratulate Rafa on his Us Open performance!!! Well done Rafi!! Younes is a great hard court player with lots of experience, it's no shame to lose against him. I'm sure Rafa learned a lot from this match. I can't wait to see him again in Bercy:-)!! I'm flying to Japan tomorrow, so see you all in three weeks. [R] - Corina, Aug/31/2003 05:39:44 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Have a great trip, Corina. See ya when you get back. And also, thanks again for the photos. I should have them all up by the time you get back. :D [R] - Susan, Aug/31/2003 17:29:12 [-08 PST] [DST]

* It's true that the serve is the weakest part of Rafi's game, but he knows he needs to improve it and he's probably going to work on it harder than ever. He did hit a few serves up to 120 mph during that match, so clearly he can serve pretty fast. He'll never serve like a Roddick, but I'm sure that he'll improve his serve. Besides, he's only 17 and has virtually unlimited potential and loads of talent. We understand that not everyone likes Rafi, but please be respectful to him even when you're - Chen, Aug/31/2003 06:42:18 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I wanna kick myself!!! I waited for Rafi match on Star Sport but I felt a sleep while Blake was playing!Oh...I woke up again in the last match of the day. Good luck to Andy! Although Rafi lost this match but I think it's a good experience for him in The U.S.A...We'll always with you!^^ [R] - Pattie, Aug/29/2003 21:49:39 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Hi, Pattie, I consolidated your messages. Andy did win tonight. Rafi came close, but it wasn't mean to be. Still, as you say, it was a good experience for him. :D [R] - Susan, Aug/29/2003 21:51:26 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Younes gave a very short interview, without much info. It's inside>>>> - Susan, Aug/29/2003 23:22:30 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Rafael, you are a fighter, as you said ... that is really all I wanted to hear!!! This was a good lesson, and you'll use it! You are still the best! Love&peace! [R] - Valentina, Aug/30/2003 00:27:52 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *news* Post-match transcript. It's up pretty quickly. Rafael sounds pretty positive, but wishes he could have lost in 4 instead of 3, but actually thinks he played better today than he did when he defeated Younes on clay. He believes he served and returned pretty well, but that Younes's serve made the difference. Again, a very mature interview from Rafi>>>> - Susan, Aug/29/2003 19:37:15 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I thought you like this article : ``No Upset for Nadal, El Aynaoui Wins`` from Us Open Web site>>> - Catsou, Aug/29/2003 20:22:32 [-08 PST] [DST]

* *photo* Thanks, Catsou. It is a great article. Here's the accompanying photo from usopen.org>>> - Susan, Aug/29/2003 21:47:00 [-08 PST] [DST]

* I don't feel like making another thread to point this out, so I'll just write here ;) I stayed at the USo an extra day just to see Rafael's first match and I was not sorry... I'm writing up my experiences on another board, but will copy and poste them over there later. I'll let you all know when I scan my pcitures - many of them turned out well :) [R] - Rebecca, Aug/29/2003 23:09:34 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Thanks, Rebecca. We would really appreciate it. :D [R] - Susan, Aug/29/2003 23:16:25 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Younes El Ayanaoui def. Rafael Nadal, 7-6(6), 6-3, 7-6(6). It was a very tight match, with two very tough tiebreakers. Rafael came from behind in both sets to take it to a TB. He played well at times, but it sounds as though his inexperience caught him on a few occasions. But the match stats are very close. Well done, Rafael! :D [R] - Susan, Aug/29/2003 16:30:34 [-08 PST] [DST]

* Here's a link to the match stats. Rafael did not play badly -- he just didn't play the big points as well as Younes, which was to be expected. He also will find things easier if he can get a few more free points off his serve.>>>> [R] - Susan, Aug/29/2003 16:33:45 [-08 PST] [DST]
