Then he said, ``I dunno. Maybe never'', and continued to chew his thumb ravenously. Both the Spaniards are brand ambassadors for Babolat, so they dutifully answered questions by a company sportsperson about the fabulous nature of the tennis products. But they lacked the conviction of, say, the cricket stars who slickly sell public products they probably never use.

Tenis.- Nadal: "He hecho un año que no me hubiese imaginado nunca" ナダルがCuatroTVのロングインタビューで語ったことが書かれています。
- Después del US Open he ido cambiando el saque.

★Eintrag 367: Samstag, 6. Jänner, Chennai(クーベックの1月6日付日記)より: 「信じられない、とにかく信じられない。 Unglaublich, einfach unglaublich.
"I was pretty nervous serving for the match; it's only human especially when you have won just one out of nine finals,"
"Obviously I would rather have won but to get to the final is perfect," "I have had five matches here and I am guaranteed three matches in a Kooyong exhibition tournament next week so I should be feeling pretty good when I go into the Australian Open."
Malisse-mania grips tennis buffs He reminded one of Stefan Edberg, so fluid in his movements in the crisp volleys as the following-up act to those big arresting serves. While Nadal's forte was in outrallying the opponent, Malisse believed in the soft variation as the unsettling mode. (【剛】のナダルに vs 【柔】のマリス、だった模様) Rattled for sure, Nadal wriggled out with some high percentage of quality serves.
Malisse, Koubek sink Spanish armada To be sure, Malisse did not enjoy any crowd support, but it didn't really matter for him. (会場中、ナダル応援一色だった) There were tight situations in the second set, and in two successive service games, Malisse faced a total of six set points. But then, this was Malisse's day. Few survive set points against Nadal and Malisse did the unthinkable. But I have been in the top 50 for seven years," ナダル: “I wasn’t playing my best tennis today. I was trying my best and giving it my 100 per cent. But my confidence wasn’t there,” (ナダルには「自信」が欠如していた)
ジョコビッチ公式サイトより: "In the end it was really tight. I was - how we tennis players say - choking in the end. I had three points for a 5:1 lead in the third set and I lost all of them, and in the last game I think he had two or three break points for 5:5 and I have to say I was lucky."

Murray falls just short at the final hurdle Ljubicic showed no physical reaction from those two gruelling encounters, suggesting he is in excellent condition for the months ahead. Happily, the same can be said of Murray, who began the week feeling seriously ill with a heavy cold and an upset stomach but somehow managed to fit in eight useful workouts, including three in the doubles with his elder brother, Jamie.

Roger was virtually in the stands trying to get back a smash. I don't know how he did it, but he smashed it back for a winner. I just wish I'd been there to see it live. It's amazing. ★The journeyman's incentive to perform The current top tier of players is far more focused on the Australian Open than those of preceding generations. It isn't as if the smaller tournaments don't matter to them — they do have to defend points — but winning those consistently through the season cannot match clinching one Slam. Often, the guarantee money a top player receives for showing up at a small Series tournament like the Chennai Open outstrips what he would make for winning the title. For some players, then, there is not enough financial motivation to play at his best; there is not enough incentive to risk injury just before the Australian. The best of three format is an advantage when you are one set up and running a top player close in the second. A little luck and you could shut him out.

ローチ(フェデラーのコーチ): "It could be a very hot Open and the weather over in Doha has been very cold and windy apparently, so the conditions haven't been very good.(今年のドーハは寒かったから灼熱の全豪に備えるには向いていなかった) ドーハに出なかったのはアピアランス・フィーについて合意に達しなかったからだろう、という話もあり。(Qatar rebuffs Federer's agents) A disagreement over appearance money is the probable reason for Federer's absence from the $1.1m (£600,000) tournament, which in previous years is reputed to have dished out half that amount again to get him. (中略) This view may have chimed with the Qatar organisers, quoted as having been "unable to reach agreement" with IMG, Federer's agents.
★Love in the air for top three Asked if Connors had made tennis harder, Roddick replied: "He's made it easier. We shall be introducing significantly tighter withdrawal rules for 2007 and 2008 and they will be tougher the following year. Making a commitment should be just that, not an option. But the rewards will be there — no more back-to-back Masters, no more five-set finals, more prize-money, bonus pools and enhanced player promotion."
★Nadal realistic about Federer challenge "I am only trying to improve my game, and specifically those parts of my game that will help me play better on surfaces other than clay," "My goal is to keep improving on all surfaces since I am still very young and if the titles come that would be great."
★Across The Net: Nadal’s Two Paths for 2007 (2007年はナダルにとってのターニングポイントになるだろういう話) Nadal is good enough on clay to hold his #2 ranking. The problem is that many men in the locker room may not be as intimidated by Nadal as they were even a year ago. If a player does not believe he can beat Nadal or Federer, he is likely to lose. Players that lose their fear of Nadal are likely to make every match he plays more difficult. .... Rafael Nadal can simplify all of this by winning in Melbourne and continuing a more organic development of his game. Of course winning the Australian Open is not so easy. Nadal will have to win 7 three out of five set matches in the Australian heat and on a punishing surface. Still that seems less difficult than reinventing a game that has been forged over thousands of hours. If Nadal can impose his iron will on those hard courts, he is almost a co-favorite with Roger Federer because the surface and climate suit his game so well. If Nadal plays with a crisis of confidence, his results will likely be along the lines of the previous few months. Spain's Raging Bull may be at a moment of truth, but like his Davis Cup performance in 2004 Nadal will likely show he has the goods to be at the top of the tennis world.
ANDY RODDICK: I was lucky enough to hitch a ride with Andre when I was about 17 on his plane. I was just asking him questions, probably being really annoying. I asked him what his biggest regret was. He said that he didn't start his foundation early enough. It really surprised me, made an impression on me. I started mine the next year.
Q. Are you hoping to get an early shot at him(フェデラー) this year in Australia? ANDY RODDICK: Well, yeah, I mean, I've made it clear that I'd love to play him as many times as possible. Also that means that I'm deep in a tournament. That's a good thing, as well (laughter).
(RG以来、ナダルの成績がぱっとしないことについて) Q. Seriously, though, hasn't won a title since the French. On hard courts, he hasn't been producing the same results. ANDY RODDICK: You don't want to hear what I have to say. No, dude, he's still winning matches. He's not losing first rounds. The guy made the semis of Masters on a hard court, on a fast indoor court. I'm sure he thinks he could play a little bit better. To say the guy's struggling, I mean, look at his age, with everything that he's accomplished. I mean, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

ツルスノフ、デ杯につづいてホップマンカップにも優勝する見込みについて "Yes it would be nice, although we don't have any girls in the Davis Cup, but some act like girls," Dmitry Tursunov said on the prospect of adding a Hopman Cup to his country's recent Davis Cup history.
